What we stand for
The closed tracks can be reopened safely with only minor upgrades to protect kauri roots and occasional drainage improvements. There is no scientific justification for widespread track closures or a mandate for all opened tracks to be over-engineered to a “dry foot” standard.
An Auckland Council survey has found no evidence of a link between tracks and kauri dieback.
We want to see wilderness tramping/hiking experiences in the Waitākere Ranges returned to Aucklanders. All ages can reap significant learning, personal development, and wellbeing benefits from hiking on tracks that immerse us in Nature. Natural surface tracks allow us to explore and witness up close the biodiversity and beauty of the Waitākere Ranges.
